What I am working on Right Now

I am writing the next book in the Ashbury-Brookfield series.
Just to explain: the Ashbury-Brookfield series began with Feeling Sorry for Celia, a book set at a private school called Ashbury, and also at a nearby public school called Brookfield.
This was followed by Finding Cassie Crazy (also known as The Year of Secret Assignments).
And then Bindy Mackenzie.
Each story is independent of the others, although sometimes characters wander between books.
You are welcome to read the books in any order that you like.
The important thing ā€“ the essential thing ā€“ is that you read them.

The next book, the one Iā€™m writing now, takes place in the year following Bindy Mackenzie. It features two new characters named Riley and Amelia. Also starring Emily and Lydia from The Year of Secret Assignments, and Toby from Bindy Mackenzie.
I cannot say what this book will be called.
But I can say that it is a ghost story.

I love your blog. And your books. Both provide excellent distractions from the endless assesment tasks I'm supposed to be doing. So excited for the new book!

I, evidently, am reading your books backwards.
I read Bindy Mckenzie, and then The Year of Secret Assignments(I just posted a review for that on my blog today) and still have yet to read Feeling Sorry for Celia.
But I am very excited to read both that and this new book. Especially since my favorite characters from both of the books that I have read are in it. (Lydia and Toby).
I love your blog!

I'm a different Caroline than the one before me... fancy that, two Carolines commenting on the same blog post.

I wrote to you a while back, Jaclyn, and you were kind enough to write back. Since writing to you, I read The Year of Secret Assignments, and it was absolutely wonderful. I'm re-reading Feeling Sorry for Celia, and I can't wait for your new "ghost story." I'm glad I have your blog to tide me over!

P.S: Danielle is reading Bindy now and enjoys every minute.

I'm glad you're including Emily and Lydia, as they were the best two of YOTSA, and Cass sometimes bored me...but...I think I might feel sad when reading it if Cassie wasn't in it AT ALL...like they'd just stopped being friends. Anyway, you're a genius, and I'm sure you'll do the right thing.

I'm really glad your adding another book to the Asbury/Brookfield companion book series. It's so much fun to read your books since it's written in letters, e-mails and more. I just purchased The Murder of Bindy Mackenzie and can't wait for the next one! It should be so interesting, being a ghost story!

I can't wait for the new book!
I'm glad Emily and Lydia are in it. They're definitely my favourite Ashbury characters.
Will Seb and Charlie be in it at all? I really hope they are. I'm really curious as to what happened with Em/Charlie and Lydia/Seb. Do you have any ideas when it will be released? I'm looking forward to it =]

Oh, I love comments so much.
Caroline and Caroline, Anon and Anon and Anon: Thank you for being so kind. Anon: I hope Cassie isn't reading this blog. Imagine if she knew you think she's boring. It helps that you think I'm a genius. Other Anon and Stephanie: the new book will come out next year, and Seb will be in it (maybe Charlie too). e.lockhart: I was so happy to meet you in New York, and now I'm so glad to see you comment on my blog. I am going to write more about my trip to New York, and in particular, I am going to point out that I met famous writers like e.lockhart.

I love your books... They are hilarious and the characters seem so real! I can't wait for your next book. I live in the north of the states in Minnesootaaa and after I read your books I was so exited that I lent them to all of my friends. I have a blog as well and I posted my story on there. It's slowly, very slowly, coming along. I can relate to Lydia in the way that I start a story and never bother to get past the 1st chapter. My mom just came in and is getting extremely exited about your new book (as she loves the ashbury-brookfield romance element.) Calm down mom.

Is Astrid going to be in it? Astrid always struck me as a character with a novel in her.

Best,

I'm so excited about your new book! Haha. I've already told you I love Toby. So it's excellent he's making a reappearance.
Now I'm wondering about these new characters! The suspense..

Thank you so much to camquat123 (and your mother; I like the sound of your mother) and Sally and zurifacee and Jess. What unusual names some of you have. Sally, the strangest thing: just moments before you left that comment I decided to introduce Astrid into the new novel. Spooky! But good that it's spooky because the novel is supposed to be a ghost story. And Jess, I'm glad you love Toby. The new characters are named Amelia and Riley.

Hi Jaclyn!
I just found your blog and I'm so happy.
I bought your book, Feeling sorry for Celia yesterday and I'm reading it for the 5th time already. I'm so in love with it even though my friends pointed out to me I'm technically too old to be reading "young adult book" (that's where I found your books).
Having finished all series of Ashbury/Brookfield book series I really can't wait for the new book to come out!

Thank you so much for saying so, Sarah. And I don't think ANYBODY is too old to read young adult fiction. Actually, one of my favourite readers-of-my-books is an 80-year-old man! I hope you like the next one. Jaclyn xx

Ooh, you're going to have a new book? That's great!

I read The Murder of Bindy Mackenzie last year and loved it. Even reviewed it at my blog!

I'm glad I found your blog. Keep on writing. :)

I just wanted to say that I love your books so much and I am so so so excited about a new book in the Ashbury/Brookfield series!

I am especially excited to hear that lydia, emily and toby are back (and I am desperately hoping for cassie, seb, charlie, elizabeth and bindi to make some appearances too!). Thankyou for the awesome books and I look forward to reading and re-reading them again and again!

*** BUT can you give a definitive date? Because my friends and I totally want to do a countdown and get EXCITED!!! ***

Thanks, Pandora.

P.S. I was wondering whether the the original title of the Lydia/Emily/Cass novel was 'The year of secret assignments'? Because my copy (and the copy they have at my local library, and local bookstore) are both called Finding Cassie Crazy... But i prefer this title anyways because it keeps the name theme (Celia, Cassie, Bindi etc)...

P.P.S. Can you please tell us the name of the new book? :) :) :)

Hey Josette, thanks so much for your comment. And Pandora, thank you too - and I wish I could give you a definite date, but I'm not sure yet. I will announce it as soon as I can. I'm close to finishing writing the book, but then it will take a while before it actually comes out. And it MIGHT be called "Shadowgirl" - that is the working title. But it might not. That might change. I wish I could be more helpful to you. Oh yeah, and "Finding Cassie Crazy" was the original title, then we changed it to "The Year of Secret Assignments" for the US and Canada. At least I have the answer to one of your questions. Soon I will update this blog, and soon I will have some answers. love, Jaclyn

Hi Jaclyn,

I was wondering, is the name of your new book 'Cicadia Summer'? Because thats what it says on your wikipedia page :o
Please tell me if this is true or false.

Thanks,
Steph.

Hi Steph, sorry about the confusion. 'Cicada Summer' is a very old book that I wrote a long time ago as part of a series of teen romances, and that is out of print now (which is for the best). The new book is currently called 'Shadowgirl' but I'm not sure if that's what it will end up being called. I'll make an announcement as soon as I know its official title.
